If Leading then Lead Diligently

The Greek word for “lead” here is proistemi, which means to stand before, to preside over, or to manage. However, the true essence of diligent leadership is not about seeking personal glory; it’s about selflessly serving others and fulfilling God’s purposes. This is the kind of leadership that can truly make a difference.

The Bible provides numerous examples of diligent leaders who guided God’s people with wisdom and faithfulness. One such leader is Nehemiah, who led rebuilding Jerusalem’s walls despite significant opposition. Nehemiah’s dedication, prayerful dependence on God, and strategic planning demonstrate what it means to lead diligently (Nehemiah 4:6, 9, 21).

Diligent leadership has a profound effect on the church community. It fosters trust, unity, and growth. Leaders who lead diligently create an environment where others feel supported, valued, and motivated to contribute their gifts and talents. Diligent leaders model integrity, inspire confidence, and set a positive example for others.

Moreover, diligent leadership helps the church navigate challenges and seize opportunities. Attentive and proactive leaders can address issues before they escalate and recognize and cultivate the potential within their congregation. Leading diligently, they help the church stay focused on its mission and vision, effectively advancing God’s kingdom.

To lead diligently, we must be intentional about our growth and development as leaders. Seeking God’s guidance, being proactive, fostering a servant’s heart, committing to continuous improvement, and building strong relationships are crucial steps in embracing this call. Investing in personal and spiritual development and cultivating trust and respect within the community can enhance our leadership skills and effectiveness.
