A small village was once nestled in the mountains, known for its breathtaking sunrises. After many days of rain, the villagers gathered at the valley’s edge one morning, eager to witness the sun break through the dark clouds. Among them was an old man, known to wake before dawn each day to claim the best view. When asked why he never missed a sunrise, he replied, “Each sunrise reminds me that the most beautiful things in life are worth waiting for, and the light always returns, no matter how long the night.”
This story echoes the sentiment found in Acts 1:11, where we’re reminded, “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will return like you have seen him go into heaven.” Just as the villagers eagerly anticipated the sunrise, we too are called to anticipate Christ’s return—not with idle waiting but a hopeful expectancy invigorating our faith and daily living.
The return of Jesus is more than just a future event; it’s a promise that shapes how we live here and now. It’s knowing that, no matter how dark the night, the light of Christ will break through, transforming everything it touches. This anticipation isn’t about passively waiting; it’s about actively preparing, living each day in a way that honors Him and reflects our hope.
So, how do we live in eager anticipation of Christ’s return?
First, we can let this hope permeate our actions. Just as the old man in the village rose early, attempting to witness each sunrise, we too can rise daily with purpose, seeking opportunities to love, serve, and share the gospel.
Second, by holding onto hope during life’s “nighttime” moments. When challenges arise and the night seems long, remembering the promise of Christ’s return can give us the strength to persevere, knowing that the dawn is coming.
Lastly, by sharing this hope with others. Just as the beauty of the sunrise was a shared anticipation among the villagers, our eager hope for Jesus’ return is meant to be shared, offering light and warmth to those still waiting in the dark.
As we await Christ’s return, let our lives reflect the beauty and hope of the sunrise we know is coming. May our actions, words, and choices shine with the anticipation of His glorious return, inviting all we meet to look eastward to the horizon, where the light is about to break.
Jesus is worth waiting for.
