“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.”

Let us take a moment to think about how amazing it is that God has given each of us unique gifts. These aren’t things we’ve earned or achieved ourselves—they’re given to us by God’s grace. It’s like receiving a beautifully wrapped gift just because someone loves us, not because of anything we did to deserve it.
Think about Paul, who once persecuted Christians but became one of the greatest apostles. Paul always remembered that God’s grace transformed him and equipped him for his mission. He wrote in 1 Corinthians 15:10, “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect.” This shows us that our gifts and abilities come straight from God’s generosity.
We all have different gifts—some might be good at teaching, others at encouraging, serving, giving, leading, or showing mercy. These gifts are like puzzle pieces, each fitting perfectly into God’s bigger picture. They are given to us not because we earned them but because God loves us and has a special plan for each of us.
So, what should our response be? First, we need to approach our gifts with humility and gratitude. Remember that our abilities come from God and should keep us humble. Ephesians 2:8-9 reminds us, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works so that no one can boast.” We can’t take credit for our gifts, but we can be thankful for them and use them to honor God.
Another important response is to use our gifts to serve others. Jesus said in Matthew 10:8, “Freely you have received; freely give.” This means we should share our gifts generously. Whether through teaching, encouraging someone having a tough time, or helping those in need, our gifts are meant to bless others.
John Stott, a renowned Anglican clergyman, theologian, and author, wisely said, “The purpose of spiritual gifts is to edify the church and glorify God. When we understand this, we use our gifts with humility and grace.”
It’s also crucial to rely on God’s guidance and strength rather than our abilities. Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” When we depend on God, we can use our gifts more effectively.
Encouraging each other is another way to respond. We need to support and appreciate each other’s gifts. Romans 12:10 says, “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” This helps build a strong, loving community where everyone’s contributions are valued.
Jesus is our perfect example. He used His gifts to teach, heal, and serve others selflessly. Philippians 2:3-4 says, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” Like Jesus, we should use our gifts to help others and bring glory to God, not for personal recognition.
Godseekers, let’s commit to growing and developing our gifts. 1 Peter 4:10-11 says, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms…so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.” By working on our gifts, we can better serve His kingdom and show His love to the world.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the unique gifts You’ve given us through Your grace. Help us to remember that these gifts are not earned but given out of Your love. Teach us to use them humbly and faithfully to serve others and glorify Your name. May we rely on Your strength and guidance as we develop and use our gifts. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
