Revisit Comm

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

Hebrews 10:24-25

In our Comm series, we explore the essential role of community in the life of a believer. God designed us to live in fellowship, strengthening and encouraging each other in faith. The Christian journey is not meant to be walked alone; through community, we find support, accountability, and the love of Christ reflected in others. True community is a gift that sustains and inspires us to grow deeper in our relationship with God.

The foundation of the Christian community is love. “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another,” Jesus said in John 13:34. (Read the full devo) This love is not superficial but sacrificial, modeled after Christ’s love for us. When we love each other deeply, we reflect God’s heart and create a strong bond of unity.

Encouragement is a cornerstone of a community. As Hebrews 10:24 reminds us, “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” (Read the full devo) In a world filled with discouragement, the church becomes a place of hope. By lifting each other up, we create an atmosphere where faith can thrive, and people are empowered to live out their calling.

Accountability strengthens us in our walk with Christ. “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another,” Proverbs 27:17 teaches. (Read the full devo) True community challenges us to grow by speaking truth in love and holding each other accountable. This sharpening process, though uncomfortable at times, leads to spiritual maturity and a deeper reliance on God.

Serving together fosters unity and purpose. In 1 Peter 4:10, we are reminded, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others.” (Read the full devo) When we join hands to serve, we become the hands and feet of Christ, meeting the needs of others and glorifying God. Shared service strengthens bonds and brings a sense of purpose to our fellowship.

Community provides strength in times of difficulty. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 states, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” (Read the full devo) Life’s challenges are lighter when carried together. In moments of weakness, the support of others reminds us that we are not alone and that God works through His people to bring comfort and aid.

Forgiveness is essential for maintaining healthy relationships. “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you,” Colossians 3:13 instructs. (Read the full devo) No community is perfect, but practicing forgiveness keeps our relationships strong and reflects the grace we have received from Christ.

Diversity within community is a reflection of God’s kingdom. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 12:12, “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.” (Read the full devo) Our differences in background, gifts, and perspectives enrich the community and demonstrate the beauty of God’s design. When we embrace diversity, we reflect the unity of the Spirit.

Throughout the Comm series, we have seen the transformative power of community. It is within the church that we experience the love, support, and accountability that fuel our spiritual growth. By embracing the gift of fellowship, we strengthen not only ourselves but also the body of Christ as a whole.

Godseekers, let this be your encouragement today. Cherish the community God has placed around you. Seek to build relationships that are rooted in love, service, and mutual encouragement. As you invest in others, you will see God’s blessings flow into your life and the lives of those around you.

Prayer

Father, thank You for the gift of community. Help us to love, encourage, and serve one another as You have called us to do. Teach us to forgive and embrace the diversity within the body of Christ. May our relationships reflect Your glory and draw us closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Personal Reflection

  1. How can you invest more deeply in the relationships within your church community?
  2. What steps can you take to encourage and support someone in your fellowship?
  3. Is there someone you need to forgive or reconcile with to strengthen your community?
